In a significant breakthrough, a team of researchers have succeeded find "a fountain of high-energy particles erupting from the ice" in Antarctica which consistent with the researchers might be proof of a parallel universe.


A lead researcher was said that the phenomenon is "in pretty strong tension with the quality model of physics" and it had been recorded by the NASA's Antarctic Impulsive Transient Antenna (ANITA).

ANITA was succeeded in detecting the 'fountain' of the high-energy particles in 2006 and 2014 but the researchers initially only thought them as ground noise or glitches.  The Lead researcher and University of Hawai'i Physics Professor Peter Gorham told the News hub that in 2016 the researchers conducted as a better inspection of the info and located phenomenon resembling at an "upside-down cosmic-ray shower"

A prototype to the complete ANITA experiment, ANITA-LITE, was flown for ~18.5 days onboard a NASA LDB scientific balooon during the 2003 Austral Summer from McMurdo Base, Antarctica. 

This type prototype consisted of the two radio antennas and electronics to amplify and digitize the radio signals picked from the ice. ANITA-LITE gathered the valuable information on the radio background that the complete ANITA experiment will see in its flight currently scheduled for the 2006 Austral Summer.

Experiment time:


ANITA-I launched from McMurdo, Antarctica within the summer of 2006–07. The array should travel around whole the continent with the circumpolar winds for a few month before being recovered by the CSBF. Each successive mission (if funded) would be at two-year intervals.

 ANITA-II, a modified instrument with 40 antennas, launched from McMurdo Station within the summer of 2008–2009. ANITA-III, expected to reinforce sensitivity by a component of 5–10, launched in December 2014. 

ANITA-IV was launched in December 2016, with a lighter overall build, tunable notch filters and an improved trigger system.

Designed by world's premier space agency NASA, the ANITA instrument may be a radio reflector which is employed to detect ultra-high energy cosmic-ray neutrinos from a scientific balloon flying over Antarctica. ANITA is that the first NASA observatory for neutrinos of any kind.

The neutrinos have energies on the order of 1018 eV and that they are capable of manufacturing radio pulses within the ice due to the Askaryan effect.


 Researchers believed that high-energy cosmic neutrinos result from interaction of ultra-high-energy (1020 eV) cosmic rays with the photons of the cosmic microwave background  this is often the most reason why it had been hoped that ANITA can help in explaining the origin of those cosmic rays.


ANITA-I was launched from McMurdo, Antarctica in 2006 and ANITA-II, a modified instrument with 40 antennas, was launched from McMurdo Station in 2008. 

The researchers then launched ANITA-III, which was equipped with systems to enhance sensitivity by an element of 5–10, in December 2014. ANITA-IV was launched in December 2016 and it had been loaded with tunable notch filters and an improved trigger system.

According to researchers, ANITA has made four flights of Antarctica continent and managed to detect numerous cosmic rays coming from the sky within the sector of view of the experiment. These radio waves are created by ionizing radiation air showers and that they are reflected off the ice before they reach ANITA
