Internet is a network of network which consist of interconnected networks. It a world wide networks of computers that uses common communications standards and interfaces to provide the physical backbone for a number of interesting applications.

Using the internet we can review newspapers, magazines, books, listen to music, watch movies, play games, go for online shopping, known about recipes, check airline schedules and railway reservations, send e-mail and much more.

HISTORY OF INTERNET

The history of internet can be tracked to a networking project started by the pentagons Advanced Research Project Agency [ARPA], an agency of the U.S department of defence. ARPA objective was to build a network that would allow scientists at different locations to share information and work together on military and scientific projects and could function even if a part of the network was disabled or destroyed by a disaster such as nuclear attack. Such network linking scientific and academic research in the united state became functional in September 1969 and was called ARPA.

In 1971, more nodes joined the network. These new nodes included Harvard and NASA.

In 1982, internet technology protocol were used. This lead to one of the first definitions of internet: being a connected set of networks.

Tim Berners Lee developed WWW [world wide web] in 1991.

As of 2011, there are approximately 65 million internet users in India alone and 1.3 billion users around the world.

INTRANET

An intranet is a network that exist exclusively within an organisation and that is based on internet technology. It delivers an organisation informational resources to each members desktop quickly and inexpensively but protects the information from unauthorized access.

BLOGS


A blog is an easy to create website that allows users to share their thoughts with the world. The word 'blog, comes from 'weblog, because a blog consist of a signed and dated log of individual postings. The topic of the blog can be anything, from personal to professional. A blog is what you make of it. The process of updating a blog is called blogging and the persons who writes a blog is a blogger.


Blogging can be an interactive activity. Readers can add comments to a bloggers posting, other can respond and a conversation ensues. Lately, bloggers have become well known commentators on the political scene, but blogging can encompass any topic or no topic at all.


A blog is normally public, the whole world can see it. The textual content in a blog follows a conversation style. Blogs also have an additional features of Archives which contains the previous posts of blog that have been posted prior to the current one. A user can easily access these archives and read the desired posts.


TYPES OF BLOGS

There are mainly four types of blogs. There are blogs maintained by individuals, there are blogs maintained by companies or organisation on the web, and then there are blogs dedicated to factual information like news, and so on.

 1] Personal blog: This is the most common type of blog. maximum number of blogs on internet belong to this category.

2] News and views: This type of blog contain factual stories about news, maintained by journalist.

3] Company blogs: Many companies run blogs to let their customers and clients known what is going on in the company that would interest clients or customers.

4] Micro-blogs: This is a new type of blog where one can post very short comments that others an follow. ex=Twitter
